When I’m Small

There’s a little voice
She hides within me

She’s been told Her whole life
You’re wrong
Don’t speak
Listen to me
I know what’s best

Voices drown Her out
Contests to see
Who can yell the loudest
The screaming hurts Her ears

She sits quietly
Afraid to show Her face
The sunlight might burn
Her delicate skin

She waits in the shadows
Quietly contemplating
The Moment
She will be set free

The bars of Her prison cell
Will disintegrate
As if they
As if they were never there

And She will soar away
A floating speck
Dancing in the wind
